With plans next season to compete in the BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship or the Junior Ginetta Championship as well as a seat time in Junior Rods we decided as a team the best way forward for Albert would be to leave the contact class of National Ministox and compete in Spedeworth Junior Rods, it’s a great class, very even, non-contact and an age limit of 11 – 16.
People didn’t see the best of Albert in National Ministox, by his standards he struggled a little – but even so he did get to the top grade, which is Superstar, although he was not allowed to race as Superstar due to the ruling that you can’t move up 3 grades in one grading period – so it was Red Top and stay there, he achieved podiums, won heats, won a Final, won Grand Nationals, at times led the Shale points and was leading the Belle Vue track Championship. There is no doubt that in the short seven months he competed in the class he made his mark! While on the Ministox we must say thanks to Mark, Norman, Billy and Amy Webster for all there help and advice, what great people!
Once we decided the move was on it was flat out to get out asap. The quickest way to get out on track is always to purchase an up and running starter car (while having a new car built), so we purchased a Corsa and as usual Andy Carter was full on going right through every detail on the car with the help of Brendon at Smith Racing Fabrication. It went to the wire and there were Three of us on the car Saturday night till 9pm, then we were happy and put it on the trailer ready for Sunday. So this Sunday saw Albert and Team arrive at Aldershot Stadium for his first race in Junior Rods and a great debut it was, they don’t get much better than this one! To go to a new track in a new to him car and be on pace is an achievement but Carter as usual rose to the challenge and went out and won Heat 2 and then won (a long 20 laps) the Final, were all pleased with that!
Next race meeting for Carter is Gt Yarmouth on Sunday 26th June.
We would like to say thanks to all the companies making it possible, Lucas Oil Products – Yuasa – Cottingham Engineering – NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd – Teng Tools – Rainbow Conference Sets – Pioneer Print – VIEDEC – Slough Tyre Centre – CAAR – Corbeau Seats – K&N – Grand Prix Race wear – Ultimate Air Brush.
Also thanks to Brendon of Smith Racing Fabrication for some fantastic work, Damian of www.ovalracingphotos.co.uk and everyone else who is giving Albert help and encouragement. June 2016
